Many Phoenix area nonprofits and charitable organizations benefit from the generosity of Kate Portanova and Arcadia Fine Wine. This premier retail store is located at Safari Drive in Old Town Scottsdale, and offers a wide assortment of exclusive wines including domestic and imported red and white wines, as well as Champagne and sparkling wines. Arcadia Fine Wine features one of the only temperature controlled (at 55 degrees) walk- in wine cellars in the state of Arizona and specializes in concierge-style wine service with a focus on wine tastings, pairing wines to individual needs, and private collection consultations.
Owner Kate Portanova has donated bottles of wine, magnums, gift certificates, and various wine products to a large number of worthy organizations. “Over the years we have supported Hospice of the Valley, First Press Arizona, Golden Gate Charities, Boys & Girls Club of Phoenix, Starlight Star Bright, Habitat for Humanity, the Humane Society, Teen Life, AWEE, the Arizona Council for Economic Education, and Cystic Fibrosis, among others. Through our donations a great deal of money has been raised for worthy causes in the Valley!”
A native of Arizona, Kate spent many summers in Michigan with her family. When it came time for college, she chose to attend school up north, graduating from Indiana University in Bloomington. “My major was marketing, which has stood me in good stead as a business owner. Then eight years ago I did an internship at the University of Tennessee. At every game for the women’s basketball team I was dressed up as a French fry, since the fast-food chain Wendy’s sponsored the team’s “Time Out” promotion!” In 2004 Kate purchased Arcadia Fine Wine, and has never looked back.
She emphasizes, “ What I appreciate most about Phoenix is how much it has evolved, how it’s completely different even since my high school years. Today there’s more culture, more restaurants, more WINE; the sunsets are awesome, and the mountains are incomparable. And when it's 70 degrees here, and the rest of the nation is enduring single digits, Arizona makes a lot of sense to me!”
During her non-work hours Kate participates in many activities. “I'm a big sports fan. Love the Suns and D'Backs. Love attending games! I also enjoy working out and hiking and spending time with my family and fiance.”
Summing up her philosophy, Kate Portanova declares, “ I have a passion for wine! Nothing compares with the experience that wine gives you--every sip and every bottle differs, which constantly challenges your thoughts and opinions. I am always evaluating my experience. It’s just tremendously fulfilling to savor wine.” And how fortunate it is that Kate Portanova through Arcadia Fine Wine shares her generous passion with area nonprofits!
