A friendly, honest and hardworking business owner, Stan Lund of Lund Mortgage brings his ethics to nonprofits in Arizona. “My goal is to be a very giving person of my time and money to charities and to my church.”
As current Board Chairman of The ALS Association Arizona Chapter, he relates, “I just came back from a leadership conference for ALS in Newport Beach, CA. It was very educational, and definitely a great experience. I learned more about ALS, and how to be an effective advocate for the organization. The conference also gave me an insight into how the nonprofit is run, and how they reach out to thousands of PALS each year, persons with ALS.” Stan has also been to Washington, DC, for the past seven years representing the Arizona Association Mortgage Brokers.
Stan became involved with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease) in 2001 when he purchased tickets to a baseball game from the ALS auction. “After we got to the game, we found out that they were the personal tickets and box seats of Curt Schilling, the great baseball player! His wife came by and thanked me for buying the tickets, and I asked if Curt would autograph a baseball for me. She said yes, but also asked if I would attend the Pitch for ALS Golf Tournament if he did. So I got the autographed baseball, played golf at the tournament, and the next year I was asked to be on the golf committee!” And Stan has been very involved with the nonprofit for the past eight years.
Since 1981, Lund has been in the mortgage industry. He served as Vice President of Home Bank of California, and in 1994 Stan and his family relocated to Arizona. After working for Great Western Bank, and becoming President of Frestan Financial Services, Stan opened Lund Mortgage. He has a wide experience in residential, commercial, construction, land, lot and equity loans. “I’ve found three things that are very important for a successful business: 1) Honesty and integrity, which is part of my value system; 2) Involvement in the industry, which I do by being in the Mortgage Brokers Association; and 3) Community involvement, which I participate in through ALS, and the time and money I donate to the Peoria Police Association.”
He is enthused about the state: "The best thing about Arizona is the SUNSHINE! Also, you can see forever here, with no tornadoes, hurricanes, tsunamis or earthquakes. It's such an inviting place with the mountains with snow on their peaks, and the desert with all its beauty." He is married to his wife June, and has raised three daughters, Lisa, Saranne, Melissa, and a grandson Tyler.
Lund’s interests outside of his vocation include playing golf, following professional football and baseball, and collecting sports memorabilia. “ I hold season tickets to the Arizona Cardinals. And in my collection I have over 80,000 cards, including a Mickey Mantle rookie card. I also collect football and baseball items, particularly from players who are in the Hall of Fame. And I enjoy getting together with friends to play Texas Hold’em!”
Stan promotes his conservative values: “Did you know that most conservatives out-give liberals by a 3-1 margin? And we’re seeing that the present economy has already impacted charitable giving. Unless people have a personal connection to a charity, they are not so giving. That’s why my work with ALS is even more important than ever!”
