Partnership for a Drug-Free America Presents "Fashion in the Park"
By Myra Richman
Summer in Phoenix became enjoyable on the morning of August 31st when the Partnership for Drug-Free America, Arizona Chapter, presented a Fashion in the Park fundraiser at Saks Fifth Avenue.
Beginning with a welcoming reception at their Biltmore Fashion Square store, guests were treated to a bistro breakfast and beautiful show featuring models presenting the new fall fashions. A private shopping experience followed the event, where attendees were treated special with a discount card and set free to do their thing. Dior contributed makeup and touch ups.
There was a brief program describing the Partnership's mission and citing some startling statistics about drug use in our community and country. The printed program was expecially interesting (and important), showing photos of various drugs available today, descibing their properties, street or slang names, short and long term effects and what every parent should know.
The Partnership for a Drug-Free America, Arizona Chapter is a private, nonprofit organization. The mission of the Partnership is to reduce illicit drug use in America. Through its programs, The Partnership inspires and persuades Arizonans to join in a united effort to prevent illicit drug use among teens through community-based education. The research-based public education campaigns reach parents and children through public service announcements, parent outreach programs, pediatricians, public relations (news stories, editorials), school-based programs and educational brochures.
The Arizona Chapter is the first chapter in the country established by The Partnership. The chapter has its own governing board, volunteers and fundraising programs in order to work toward the reduction of illicit drug use in America. The primary goal of the Arizona Chapter is to provide information and practical guidance to parents, children and teens to reduce drug use for healthy families in local communities.
