The 48th Annual Black and White Ball and Third Annual Business Awards, presented by Qwest Cummunications Inc., were held on April 22nd at the Westin Kierland Resort & Spa.

The Chamber's single largest fundraiser was a big (and I mean big) success. Walking into the ballroom was a daunting scene, with tables stretching from one end of the room to the other--accommodating 1200 guests dressed in black and/or white. Bunches of roses were at every centerpiece--various colors were chosen to differentiate sponsor levels.

Many dignitaries were present, from City of Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon, to Scottsdale Mayor Mary Manross, to Governor Janet Napolitano, to Scottsdale Councilman Jim Lane and many more. All 1200 guests sprung to their stilettos (the women, that is) to pay tribute to the Governor with a standing ovation.

Beautiful gift baskets lined one of the walls for the silent auction during the cocktail hour, followed by dinner and the presentation of awards, then the live auction and dancing to the music of Johnny Polanco.

A particularly sensitive and responsible touch was the note that everyone received about the Labrador puppy in the live auction. The note reminded guests that before falling in love with those brown eyes, "paws" and make sure you can provide the kind of lifelong home this little one needs and deserves..a fenced yard, landlord permission, responsibility for 10-15 years and children who behave well with a dog.
